MIS Programs in a constantly changing Technology Landscape

MIS programs face many challenges. One, the technology landscape is constantly changing.Second, there is a boom or bust in enrollments depending on the current “perception” about job prospects for graduates, whether justified or not. Finally, there is limited awareness of the discipline among prospective
undergraduate students.

Technology cycles affect MIS enrollments profoundly. Now, industry experts are
touting cloud computing, analytics, and mobile computing as the next wave of IT
advances that will change the world. In recognition of the critical importance of
positioning MIS programs to be on top of challenges posed by constantly

changing technology, the University of Texas at Dallas, in collaboration with the
University of Arizona, Indiana University, University of Maryland,
and the
University of Minnesota, is organizing an Academic conference that will examine

ways to ensure the sustained viability of the area.
